Brandon M. Ilgen
Associate Attorney
"Tolstoy wrote, 'All happy families resemble one another; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.' I believe every family situation, happy or unhappy, is unique and deserves to be treated as such."
Brandon brings a dedication to legal excellence to the team at Batley Family Law. He is committed to working with clients to understand their unique circumstances and goals so that he can best help them navigate the periods of transition and crisis that lead them to seek legal assistance. He is trained in mediation, and while advocating zealously for clients, he endeavors to minimize conflict and stress between parties in crafting long-lasting resolutions.
Brandon graduated with his Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law, summa cum laude (with highest honors), where he attended on a full-tuition merit scholarship from the UNM School of Law Alumni/æ Association. Historically, the scholarship has been awarded to one member of each incoming law school class. Upon graduation, he was inducted into the prestigious Order of the Coif – an honor extended to those graduating law school in the top 10% of their class.
His background is rich with varied legal experiences. Upon graduating from law school, he opened a solo legal practice dedicated to community lawyering, where he worked until joining Batley Family Law. During law school, he served as a law clerk at Sandia National Laboratories, as an extern at the New Mexico Supreme Court, and as a tutor for Advanced Constitutional Law. These roles have honed his analytical skills and legal knowledge, preparing him for the multifaceted challenges that often face our clients.
Brandon holds a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in Linguistics and a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in English, both from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he also received an award for being “the graduating senior man ranking highest in character, personality, scholarship, and activities.” He was also named the Outstanding English Undergraduate of the Year and the Linguistics Undergraduate of the Year. He’s an enthusiastic and life-long student of language and culture, with a deep commitment to understanding the challenges of cross-cultural communication.
