Divorce is often one of the most stressful times in a person’s life. With extensive experience in handling all types of divorces, our divorce lawyers are highly skilled and qualified to represent couples in a variety of legal circumstances. Our firm pursues every avenue to resolve family law matters efficiently while minimizing conflict through mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) when possible. If litigation is necessary, our trial attorneys are fully prepared to protect your interests in court.
-
A collaborative divorce is a legal process that focuses on reaching a settlement outside of court. This approach emphasizes cooperation and collaborative problem-solving to create a mutually beneficial agreement without the need for adversarial litigation, allowing couples to avoid costly time in the courtroom.
In a collaborative divorce, both spouses retain separate attorneys who collaborate with other professionals (such as financial experts, counselors, and child specialists) to help the couple make informed decisions. This requires open communication and disclosure among all parties, resulting in a more private and less combative process that aims to preserve positive relationships and reduce stress.

Experienced Family Law Representation in Albuquerque & Across New Mexico
Roberta S. Batley is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a distinction recognizing family law practitioners for demonstrated knowledge, skill, and integrity. Our firm is selective about the cases we accept and attentive to our clients’ desire for discretion and privacy. Our work includes divorce, custody, support, property division, and agreements. We serve clients in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and throughout New Mexico, and offer virtual consultations for families across the state.
Family Law Mediation
We offer multiple dispute-resolution paths, including negotiation, collaborative divorce, mediation, and litigation, so that the approach fits your family’s circumstances and goals.
Lauren E. Riley provides independent flat-rate mediation for families, including matters involving unrepresented parties. As a neutral, a mediator doesn’t represent either party or provide legal advice to either side. Mediation can address parenting plans, property division, support, and other family law issues when the parties are able to participate in a productive decision-making process. Parties who reach a mediated agreement may still benefit from separate legal review before signing. We also provide neutral mediation for represented parties whose counsel is seeking a mediator for their dispute.
Surrogacy & Assisted Reproduction
We represent surrogates, donors, and intended parents navigating the legal side of assisted reproduction. Our work in this area includes reviewing, negotiating, drafting, and finalizing gestational-carrier agreements, as well as preparing petitions and affidavits for pre-birth or post-birth parentage orders. Assisted-reproduction arrangements involve parentage, contractual, and timing considerations that can vary by arrangement and jurisdiction. Our assisted-reproduction practice also covers egg, sperm, and embryo donation matters.
