Welcoming Our Newest Associate Attorney: Brandon M. Ilgen

We are thrilled to announce the latest addition to our legal team, Brandon M. Ilgen, who joins us as an Associate Attorney. With a remarkable academic background and extensive experience in various legal capacities, Brandon brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to our firm.

Academic Excellence

Brandon’s journey in law began with distinction. He received a full-tuition merit scholarship to attend law school from the University of New Mexico School of Law Alumni/æ Association, and graduated summa cum laude from the UNM School of Law in May 2019. Throughout his academic career, he garnered numerous accolades, including being inducted into the Order of the Coif. When graduating with an undergraduate degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the University named him “the graduating senior man ranking highest in character, personality, scholarship, and activities.”

Legal Experience

Before joining Batley Riley Family Law, Brandon ran his own solo practice. While in law school, he served as a law clerk at Sandia National Laboratories, as an extern at the New Mexico Supreme Court, and as a tutor for Advanced Constitutional Law. He is trained in both basic and family mediation. Brandon brings his broad experience to his practice with our firm.

Brandon is a firm believer in Batley Riley Family Law’s client-centered approach to family law. He works with clients to understand their individual circumstances and their goals so as to find long-term lasting resolutions to the issues facing their families.

Community Engagement

Beyond his legal endeavors, Brandon actively engages with the legal community. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Recent Graduate Chapter of the UNM School of Law Alumni/æ Association and is currently serving on the Nominations Committee for candidates for the International Executive Board of Phi Alpha Delta, Law Fraternity International – a professional legal organization that counts among its members President Biden (along with six former presidents), US Supreme Court Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Samuel Alito, former Justices such as Ruth Bader-Ginsberg, and numerous others who have distinguished themselves with service to the legal community.

Cross-Cultural Competency

Brandon speaks Russian at home with his wife and kids, and he has a working knowledge of French. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics, magna cum laude, from the University of Alaska Fairbanks (along with another B.A. in English, magna cum laude) and he has a deep interest in cross-cultural communication. In addition to Russian and French, Brandon has formally studied Mandarin Chinese, Hawaiian, and Navajo (Diné bizaad). Though he doesn’t claim fluency in any of the former, his study of the languages has added to his cross-cultural competencies which he employs on behalf of Batley Riley Family Law clients.
