Jan Gilman-Tepper, co-founder of the firm, has retired. Jan practiced family law for over 40 years and concentrated her practice in the area of business divorces. Her clients primarily included business owners, or their spouses. She worked with large and small businesses. She represented owners, corporate officers, or their spouses, in all major industries in New Mexico. Jan also mentors and provides education on various legal topics to the lawyers and paralegals of the firm.
Ms. Gilman-Tepper’s experience handling multi-layered cases involving business valuation, high profile and professional goodwill, multi-state businesses, and prenuptial agreements, provided a solid professional background. Jan is skilled in all alternative dispute resolution methods, which include: Collaborative Divorce, mediated divorce, negotiation and facilitation. According to an article in the New Mexico Bar Bulletin, Jan “Helped spearhead the collaborative divorce (movement in New Mexico), a process aimed at helping families resolve the legal, emotional, financial and parenting aspects of divorce without resorting to litigation”.
She has frequently lectured on Collaborative Divorce topics for Continuing Legal Education Seminars in New Mexico for attorneys, financial and mental health experts.
In addition to serving on numerous State Bar and New Mexico Supreme Court committees, over her forty plus year career, Jan has freely given her time to mentor young lawyers through the State Bar, and to speak and author materials for Continuing Legal Education seminars held across New Mexico. Jan has lectured on such topics as Collaborative Divorce, litigation divorce, adoption, domestic violence, COBRA issues, forensics, business valuation and legal professionalism.

Spingola v. Spingola, 91 N.M. 737, 580 P.2d 958 (1978), Belosky v. Belosky, 97 N.M. 365, 640 P.2d 471 (1982), Fox v. Fox, 103 N.M. 155,703 P.2d 932 (1985), Gomez v. Gomez, 119 N.M. 755, 895 P.2d 277 (1995) which involved child custody and jurisdiction issues.
